Printed Translations of the Holy Qur'an

The first stage of the project consisted of the preparation of a bibliography of translations of the Holy Qur'an which were published with the invention of printing techniques in 1515 until the present time. The project was conducted by Ismet Binark, a leading specialist in bibliography, jointly with Halit Eren, head of IRCICA Library, under the Director General's supervision. Mr. Binark resigned from his post after the publication of this bibliography and was later appointed Director of the State Archives of the Turkish Prime Ministry.

The World Bibliography of Translations of the Holy Qur'an- Printed Translations 1515-1980, published in 1986, gives information about 2672 works which are the originals, copies and different editions of 551 complete and 883 incomplete translations and selections in 65 languages. The International Islamic Call Society (Tripoli, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya) extended financial assistance for the publication of this bibliography.

An enlarged edition of the World Bibliography of Translations of the Holy Qur'an-Printed translations is in preparation, also to cover the Quran translations which were printed after 1980.

An international symposium on Translations of the Meanings of the Holy Qur'an was organised on 21-23 March 1986 in Istanbul, jointly with the International Islamic Call Society (Tripoli, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya).
