THE “MAHATHIR AWARD FOR ISLAMIC STUDIES“

ISLAMIC STUDIES FIRST AWARD DEVOTED TO STUDIES ON THE MALAY WORLD

IRCICA is honoured that its proposal to institute a scholarly award for islamic studies under the name of “mahathir award for islamic studies”, in gratitude to h.e. dato seri dr. Mahathir Mohamed, Prime Minister of Malaysia for his support of cultural development and scholarship, has been approved by the Government of Malaysia. The award was announced during the Tenth Islamic Summit Conference (Kuala Lumpur, 16-18 October 2003). Following the announcement, the Centre made contacts with the concerned authorities and is waiting their answer designating the body in Malaysia which shall be in charge of the liaison with IRCICA. The award program is to be implemented by IRCICA as soon as it receives this answer and confirmation, so that cooperation and consultation with the pertinent Malaysian authorities be ensured. The awards will be presented to the best PhD dissertations, which constitute significant contributions to research in Islamic studies. Announcements and selection processes, jury meetings and other procedures will be carried out as soon as the project is launched. The award will be dedicated to studies on the Malay world.
