This book prepared by IRCICA’s expert Adem Handzic, a historian who joined the Centre during the years of the 1992-95 War in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a comprehensive research work based on first-hand historical sources. It traces the history of the Islamic institutions, waqfs, mosques and other monuments established in Bosnia and Hercegovina during the Ottoman period, describes their historical significance and current states. Its special focus is on the waqfs that were set up in Central and Northern Bosnia during the Ottoman Period and their affiliated institutions such as mosques, schools and cemeteries.
