Andrew Petersen is a professor of Islamic Archaeology and Architecture based at the University of Bradford, U.K. His research interests include: the development of Hajj routes from the early Islamic period to the end of the Ottoman era and the development of Islamic cities and the archaeology of the Ottoman empire. He has carried out architectural surveys, excavations and field research throughout the Middle East and is currently working on a project investigating the remains of medieval Baghdad. He has several books, chapters and articles on the architectural heritage of the Middle East. His most recent book Ramla; City of Muslim Palestine (Archaeopress, 2021) traces the development of the city from its foundation in 712 AD up to the end of the Ottoman period.
