IRCICA participated in the International Scientific Conference on “Journey from Modern Azerbaijan to the Historical State of Shirvanshahs”

An International Scientific Conference on “Journey from Modern Azerbaijan to the Historical State of Shirvanshahs” was held in Baku, on 23-24 October 2018. The conference was organized by the Administration of State Historical – Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher”, Baku. At the invitation of H.E. Mr. Abulfas Garayev, Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan, IRCICA Director General Dr. Halit Eren delivered a scholarly address during the conference. The latter was organized with multidisciplinary outlook accommodating aspects of the ten-centuries long history of the Shirvanshah state relating to archeology, architecture, numismatics, ethnography, epigraphy, literature and philosophy, among others. The conference was opened by the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Dr. Abulfas Garayev. It was also addressed by the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Prof. Akif Alizade, the Chairman of the Board of “Icherisheher” Dr. Asgar Alakbarov, and IRCICA Director General Dr. Halit Eren. In his address, Dr. Eren underlined that “Shirvanshahs history carries cultural achievements in many areas of sciences and letters, urbanism and architecture. It also features noteworthy experiences of international relations and diplomacy over its long span. With all these features Shirvanshah history has attracted scholars’ interest and offered inspiring themes for specialized approaches in history studies.”

The conference provided an opportunity for Dr. Halit Eren, Director General of IRCICA and Dr. Asgar Alakbarov, Chairman of the Board of “Icherisheher” to confer on research projects to be undertaken jointly with respect to the cultural heritage of the site.
