The Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) is devoted to preserving Islamic cultural heritage around the world and has undertaken many activities to conserve and document that heritage over the years. In keeping with these efforts, the Cultural and Architectural Heritage Section at IRCICA is organizing a monthly seminar/webinar series entitled “IRCICA Heritage Talks”, where leading academics and experts from around the world, will be invited to give talks and discuss relevant and urgent contemporary issues in the field. The series will tackle multiple themes including The Meaning of Architectural Heritage / Islamic Heritage in Danger/ Heritage Conservation / Preservation of Memory-place /Islamic Cities and Settlements. etc. The program is intended to provide a platform for intellectual exchange and discussion about research that is related to Islamic culture, history, architecture, and urban heritage.
Prof. Samer Akkach will be IRCICA’s guest in May as part of the IRCICA Heritage Talks program. In his speech titled “Vision and Representation in Islamic Art and Architecture” Prof. Akkach will discuss the subject on the basis of his latest works.
Prof Samer Akkach Biography:
Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities (FAHA); Professor of Architectural History and Theory; Founding Director, Centre for Asian and Middle Eastern Architecture (CAMEA), University of Adelaide, Australia. His interdisciplinary research expertise spans several fields, including early modern Arab-Islamic intellectual and socio-urban histories and Islamic cosmology and mysticism. Author of several books, the latest: Naẓar: Vision, Belief, and Perception in Islamic Cultures (Brill 2022).
The lecture will take place on Friday, 26 May 2023 at 11 a.m. in IRCICA’s conference hall, via online connection with Prof. Akkach and will be broadcasted online.
