Participation in the Second World Summit of Religious Leaders

The Second World Summit of Religious Leaders was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 14-15 November 2019. H.E. Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan Republic was present at the opening ceremony. The Summit conference was organized by the Baku International Centre of Interfaith and Inter-Civilizational Cooperation. It commemorated the 70th birthday and 40th anniversary in office of H.E. Sheikhul Islam Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims’ Board and Secretary General of the Baku International Centre of Interfaith and Inter-Civilizational Cooperation.

IRCICA Director General moderated one of the working sessions and the Closing Session where the Summit participants adopted the Baku Declaration.

The Summit and the Declaration aimed to contribute to the development of inter-religious dialogue, promotion and evolution of such human values as mutual understanding and human solidarity. Leaders and representatives of more than 70 countries, 25 traditional religions and religious sects from 5 continents, and representatives of around 10 international organizations, attended the event. The Summit featured discussions on combatting the problems of terrorism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, aggression and violent extremism. The participants expressed their concern over these issues, and deplored the destruction of cultural and religious heritage.
