King Fahd Awards Competition in Islamic Architecture

The King Fahd Awards Competition for Design and Research in Islamic Architecture was organised in 1986. Awards totalling US$ 100,000.- were allocated for the competition by H.M. King Fahd bin Abdulaziz. The awards were distributed to the winners in the design and research categories. There were 270 entries in the design category and 90 entries in the research category, from 40 countries around the world.

The international competition jury met in Istanbul on 7-10 August 1986. 42 participants won awards for 31 entries they had presented. The Ceremony for the Presentation of the King Fahd Awards in Islamic Architecture was held in Riyadh on 20 December 1987, under the patronage of H.R.H. Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz, Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and Aviation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
