Imam Bukhari Research Center (Samarkand) and IRCICA joint online seminars on “Early dictionaries of the Qur’an in Central Asia” and “Hadith Literature Sources from the Ashtarkhanid Period” – March and April 2026

The international online seminar series coordinated jointly by Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Center (Samarkand, Uzbekistan) and IRCICA has hosted Dr. Bagdat Dyussenov from Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies, Almaty, Kazakhstan, with a lecture on “Dictionaries of the Qur’an, Muqaddamat al-adab and the Mamluk Period: Continuity in Form and Content” (on 26 March 2026) and Dr. Mirzaev Nasriddin Mukhriddinovich from the Beruni Institute of Oriental Studies, Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, speaking on “Hadith Literature: Analysis of Sources from the Ashtarkhanid Period” (on 28 April 2026). The first lecture dealt with the emergence of the initial Arabic-Persian-Turkic dictionaries in Islamic Central Asia, the role of al-Zamakhshari’s (d. 1144) work Muqaddamat al-adab and of the scholarly legacy of the Golden Horde in the compilation of these dictionaries, and subsequently, the transition of these competences to Mamluk Egypt and Syria in the 13th-16th centuries.
The second lecturer communicated the findings of in-depth research on the sources of Hadith and compilation methods in Bukhara under the rule of the Ashtarkhanid dynasty (1599-1785). During the said period, Bukhara had become a prolific center of Islamic culture and scholarship.
